1996 Estimated pitcher's quality of opposition. This study was an attempt to see if ERA's were significantly affected by differences in how often pitcher's faced good (or bad) teams. The implicit assumption is that the quality of teams faced averages out over the course of a season, making ERA's comparable to one other within a league (after adjusting for park). The results (estimating the cumulative weighted Onbase Plus Slugging) suggest that there fairly significant differences.
